Breast is Truly Best

Breastfeeding bonds the infant and mother.  The nurturing experience of breastfeeding builds important emotional ties between mother and child that will have a lifelong positive effect on their relationship.  It is the beginning of a unique relationship and is a special gift only mother can give.

Breastmilk is the perfect food for infants.  Human milk fulfills an infant's total nutrient requirement during the first six months.  It continues to provide essential nutrition throughout the first year of life and beyond.  Because it is more digestible, breastfed babies have a reduced risk of obesity later in life, have less diarrhea and constipation and a decrease in allergies.

Breastmilk is the baby's first immunization.  Human milk contains a variety of antibodies and protection from many bacterial and viral pathogens.  It is protective against ear infections, colds, flu and pneumonia.  Moms produce antibodies to whatever diseases are in the environment, so babies are protected as well.

Other great benefits include higher IQ's, decreased risk of SIDS, childhood diabetes, and certain cancers as well as improved vision, speech and coordination.  Breastmilk is free, warm and always ready, and breastfeeding provides multiple health benefits for mothers, too.
